Swanee River – Hugh Laurie: Florida’s state song as sung by someone who was definitely not born in America (although, to my knowledge, no one has ever asked to see his birth certificate).
Steal My Sunshine – Len: Welcome to the SUNSHINE State. My oldest memories of FLA were from the 90s, so this song will always remind me of home.
Wading in the Velvet Sea – Phish: Um. It’s Phish. I feel very little need to justify this choice, so I’ll give a lame reason – Tampa is on the sea and fish live in the sea. Bam.
Love Song – Anberlin: Central Florida band covering (what I consider) a classic from the 80s.
Brightest – Copeland: Another Central Florida band that I just like a lot. It’s mopey, but great.
Run Run Run – John Gold: Tampa native and one of the greatest human beings alive. Great for a run in one of Tampa’s many scenic locales.
Je Veux Te Voir – Yelle: An homage to the bar scene in Tampa, this song is a staple at Czar.
Hopeless Case – Varnadore: Yet ANOTHER local band. People in Tampa are obviously very emotional.
Right Round – Flo Rida: No playlist for a trip to Florida would be complete without FloRida. It’s definitely on the books somewhere.
The Race is On – The Grateful Dead: Once the convention is over, we’re in the home stretch. The race is, most certainly, on.
Dreamgirl – Dave Matthews Band: You will, at some point, see the sun set in Tampa. Listen to this when you do. Only then can you understand Tampanian life, and then you’ll have experienced everything about Tampa that you need to.
G Major – Guster
The Boy with the Arab Strap – Belle and Sebastian
Evaporated – Ben Folds Five
Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
King of the World – First Aid Kit
